The Institute
The Institute for Biological and Medical Engineering is an interdisciplinary academic unit of the University that does research, teaching and outreach in the intersection of technology, health and sciences. It simultaneously belongs to the Schools of Engineering, Medicine and Biological Sciences. It is formed by faculty and students with diverse background and education, such as engineering, physics, biology and medicine.
Its objective is to apply the principles of engineering and design in engineering to solve problems in the areas of medicine and biology; and to employ cells, live organisms and principles of biology to solve problems in the areas of engineering, medicine and other disciplines. Its final goal is to develop biomedical engineering and biotechnology solutions to benefit the society.
