- Summary
Fernan studied engineering for two years and biology for three. He worked for a year in Álvarez-Buylla’s lab (UNAM) before moving to Cambridge to pursue a Ph.D. in biological sciences in Jim Haseloff’s lab. His entire education has been supported by Argentina’s free public education system and international scholarships from the John Paul II Foundation and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology and at the Institute of Biological and Medical Engineering at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. He also works at the iBio Millennium Institute and OpenPlant. His group promotes open technologies for bioengineering, science, and education; the group’s members are part of the open technology movements GOSH, ReClone, and TECNOx.
