Infrastructure and equipment

The Institute of Biological and Medical Engineering (IIBM) is located on the San Joaquín Campus and has facilities spread across two buildings. Its main headquarters, located on the seventh floor of the Science and Technology Building, houses the offices of faculty and staff, meeting rooms, and three biosafety level 2 (BSL-2) research laboratories. In addition, the institute has a biosafety level 1 (BSL-1) research laboratory on the seventh floor of the Interdisciplinary Studies Building.
The research conducted at the IIBM integrates engineering, the biological sciences, and medicine to generate knowledge and develop innovative solutions in health, biotechnology, and sustainability. Its research areas include tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, biomaterials and cell therapies, biomechanics and mechanobiology, optical biophysics and biomedical imaging, microfluidics and scientific instrumentation, neuroengineering and physiological signal analysis, and cellular and molecular engineering.
