About us

We are an interdisciplinary institute that seeks to respond to the present and future needs of society, training the next generation of outstanding bioengineering scientists and fostering a new way of doing scientific research through collaborative work between researchers, clinicians and industry partners. We focus on rapidly converting our research into new medical products and solutions.

Some of the key objectives of the IIBM are to

History

 

Founded as an interdisciplinary research institute at the forefront of health innovation, our institute has been a driving force in shaping the intersection of biological and biomedical engineering in Chile.

2009

Creation of the "Biomedical Engineering Group".

2013

The group is renamed the "Biomedical Engineering and Biotechnology Initiative".

2014

The model of the Institute was chosen as an Academic Unit under the faculties of Engineering, Medicine and Biological Sciences.
The current name was adopted.

2016

The "Institute of Biological and Medical Engineering" is formally approved by UC.

2019

D. in Biological and Medical Engineering".
