In this initial stage, the team used Raman spectroscopy to identify spectral patterns of the compound, even at low concentrations, and subsequently incorporated <strong data-start=\"4777\" data-end=\"4797\">machine learning<\/strong> models capable of recognizing signals that are not detectable by the human eye. <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"4870\" data-end=\"5163\">The preliminary data were obtained in the laboratory of Professor <strong data-start=\"4941\" data-end=\"4958\">Birger Seifer<\/strong>, a research associate at the Millennium Institute MIRO, while the project continues to be carried out in the laboratory of Professor <strong data-start=\"5090\" data-end=\"5107\">Tobias Wenzel<\/strong>, a researcher at IIBM, in collaboration with Dr. Seifer.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"5165\" data-end=\"5464\">Beyond optimizing the detection of ferrous sulfate, the goal of the research is to understand how <strong data-start=\"5289\" data-end=\"5312\">Helicobacter pylori<\/strong> infection alters iron metabolism, a phenomenon that may be linked to gastrointestinal diseases such as ulcers and gastric cancer.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"5466\" data-end=\"5739\">During the next phases of the project, the team will incorporate more complex biological samples to conduct a comprehensive study of the interaction between the bacteria and iron, thereby enhancing the potential of these tools for biomedical and pharmaceutical applications.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"5741\" data-end=\"6151\">Emerson Dur\u00e1n\u2019s participation in <strong data-start=\"5778\" data-end=\"5791\">SPEC 2026<\/strong> provided an opportunity to showcase these advances to researchers from various countries, placing the work carried out at the IIBM on the international stage and reaffirming the Institute\u2019s commitment to developing interdisciplinary research that integrates optics, artificial intelligence, and biomedical engineering to address health
